Believe it or not, a bad headlight wire or bulb can cause that problem. Replace the bulb first, if problem persists, check out the wiring and ground lugs.  Also try putting a jumper cables between the engine and the battery and the chasis. Sometimes faulty grounds will drive you crazy.
