I have received anything from the price of the charter to no tip at all. Please understand that while tips are great, they are not mandatory. I am paid to do a job and I will do that job to the best of my ability without really considering the possibility of a tip. If a client appreciates the effort and offers a tip, that's is great... but I am not offended if they don't. Some of the biggest tips that I received were on days that we didn't catch much! 10-20% is definitely the norm. Also, tipping the guide or deck hand directly most definitely communicates your affirmation to the person who you wish to reward.
