Mike and Sherry
Posted by Alaskacanoe on Apr 12 2006
Mike is an old time Alaskan that has lived on the family homestead forever. His wife Sherry is also a capt and does shuttle service for Kayak trips. It will be an adventure to go out with mike, if you can get on the water. I sent my inlaws and wife down to do a trip a few years ago, and due to tide and the boat launch at his place they never got out on the water. He has been around for ever. He used to drive around Seward with a big Dog riding on his motorcycle with him. quite a character. His mom used to teach at the Vocational college in town. It is a truly Alaskan experience at Millers Landing, something you will never forget. They used to have cabins that they rented out that were only cleaned by the last person to use them. So you were walking into what ever the last bunch decided was clean enough. I think they have changed that now, but it was interesting. They used to hire a bunch of college kids each year to work the place. They had an old guy staged at the bait shop with a sign above him that said fishing advice .5 cents... that place burned down, and even though they are a money making business, they convinced the locals to rebuild a new store. anyway.. I am grinning as I write this due to my visual of what it was like...LOL
