maine halibut fisherman with questions
Posted by mainer on Apr 10 2006
hey how ya doin.  i've been reading from this site for a long time now and finally took the time to register and post.  love hearing how fishing is in alaska.  it kind of sounds easy to catch fish.  i am a lobsterfisherman primarily but in may, june and july i also commercially fish for halibut.  we are allowed fifty fish per year and only 4 fish per day.  maximum 400 hooks per day.  i usually get the 50 fish but it takes a long time.  mostly  30-40 lbs.  have lots of questions for alaska fisherman.
do larger circle hooks equal larger fish?
fresh bait or old and greasy?
do your trawls only tend to fish on the ends?
moon cycles?
water temperature?
talk to you later
love the site
