I found them in 50-100+ fathoms
Posted by Danod on Dec 18 2005
Back when I worked for Fish and Game doing crab research, we'd pull balck cod up in crab pots set in 50 to 100 fathoms south of Akutan and Akun Islands in July. Not many and not big ones- maybe 2.5 pounds max. To me they are one of the most perfectly shaped fish I've ever seen. I like them smoked best. Eaten fresh, they were a bit oily and I wished I knew how to cook them some other way than frying. We tried eating almost any fish that came up during these trips. Lots of fun.
