Dog Days...
Posted by AlaskanAuthor on Nov 30 2005
The chum is the second largest salmon species. They are terrific fighters due to size and disposition. Hook one that breaks off or spits a lure and it still leaps just to remind you of how angry it was that you messed with it.

They are sold as "silver-brites" in the retail markets when harvested at sea. On the river they deteriorate rather quickly and transform with bands of color that range from green/red/purple. Snouts on males hook severely and teeth protrude to give them a ferocious appearance that is canine; thus the nicname "dogs".

Tremendous catch-and-relase fish but heaven help you if you foul hook one in the tail; you'll be on the freight train to hell before it's over...
