silver peak
Posted by alaskanfishguides on Nov 25 2005
Pescador,
It has been my experience on the Kenai that the first run of silvers will peak during the 2nd and 3 week of August. The silver run, though, is not like the sockeye, you won't see a massive migration; they seem to spread out over months.
That being said, this year, the silvers, like all of the salmon on the Kenai, were late by about 2 weeks. Normally we will start catching silvers in the last week of July... this year we didn't see silvers in any numbers until the 2nd week of August.
Hope that helps, I really don't know the run timing for Southeast, Prince William Sound (Seward is usually last week of July to First week of August) or Kodiak.
You can find salmon run timing charts at http://www.alaskanfishguides.com/planning_your_trip.htm . Unfortunately, Alaska Department of Fish and Game has not found a way to study the return of Coho (silver) salmon, so there is not a good source of statistical data on run peak or run size other than anecdotal.
Hope that's what you were looking for...
Good luck
