Minto for Pike?!
Posted by PhilG on Jun 16 2003
      Hello,
I've heard good things about Pike fishing in Minto Flats.  I'm a novice Pike fisherman, but I'm well versed in many other types of freshwater fish.  I put in this weekend in Nenana and ran up into Swanneck slough in the south of the Flats.  Didn't catch a thing.  Is this Pike water?  Hearing that Pike are fished for much like Black Bass, I was throwing rattletraps, crankbaits, and spoons.
The water was very silty and fairly shallow.  Am I better off going all the way (from Fairbanks) around to Minto village and put in from there?  Am I okay to fish in the rivers/sloughs or should I be in an enclosed body of water like a lake?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,
Phil
