landing big fish
Posted by AKCAPT on Nov 06 2005
I have found that getting a salmon shark in the boat can be more than heavy lifting. Their skin is so rough that is makes it tough to slide them in. I  have found that taking a small tarp and laying it on the siade of the boat and wetting it down makes landing sharks much easier. Once you lift the shark up on the tarp then pull the trap/shark into the boat and the tarp is what is sliding on the gunnel not the sand paper like skin of the shark.

As far as other big fish, I had Plaschem in Anchorage make a stern door in one of my boats and all the others came with one from the factory. This makes getting any fish in to the boat a breeze.

Hope this helps.
