Boating big fish
Posted by Snowwolfe on Nov 04 2005
Now that winter is upon us I have time to research some new ideas for next year. In our boat the only muscle for pulling in a big halibut or salmon shark is myself and my son. I do remember how difficult it was for my brother and I to boat a 175 pound halibut we landed years ago. My question is, since we are limited to "muscle power" would it be a good idea to carry and use a small block and tackle to pull in a really big halibut or salmon shark? All the cleats on my boat (Sea Sport) are thru bolted so they should be strong enough. I was thinking of connecting the block and tackle bewteen two cleats on one side of the boat while we attempted to pull the fish up and in the other side. Would you wrap the rope around the tail of the fish? Comments are appreciated.
