no lake trout in big lake
Posted by wdjack on Jun 02 2003
i have lived in big lake for over ten years and have never seen a laker come out of it. we do have char, dollies, rainbow and burbot. if you drive up the road to red shirt lake you can catch some nice lakers on occassion. 20 years ago there where lots of lake trout in red shirt but then came the slough sharks of the north or better known as the northern pike. to get to red shirt lake drive north on the parks hwy nacy lake rd. go to the end of the road you will the trail head. its about a 45 min hike. you can rent a canoe for tipi canoe there in the book and the canoes are on the lake locked up. they give you a key when you pay. there is also 3 or 4 nice service cabins to stay in if you want to over night. also lots of pike. good luck
