Pike puncture...
Posted by AlaskanAuthor on Aug 24 2005
Great tales about your pike experiences!

I was an absolute greenhorn when I first got into these in Quebec, Canada. And my big mistake was not knowing how to handle them once I brought them into the boat. The end result was a trebble so deeply imbedded into my right thumb that I could not back it out, nor push it through.

By the time I made it out of the lake system, returned to my borrowed truck with a dead battery, walked out back to the lodge, drove 70 miles to the nearest city, waited hours at a hospital due socialized health care, the barb had been in me for 7 hours.

Greenhorn is right. I learned the hard way. And my lodge host warned me not be polite (as I usually am), and suggested that I might have to be rude and be angered to get attention.

I finally let go with that bad boy four letter F word, and the doctor immediately came into my annex with this response:

"Yes, did you call me? I am doctor Tran Lee Fouk."

True story...
