Halibut
Posted by 7mmREM on Aug 23 2005
I've been fishing out of Homer nearly every weekend since mid-June, when we bought our boat.  I have a small 20' Trophy that's a new adventure for me, so I've only been able to go about 20 miles SW of the spit, but have easily limited out each time.  They're pretty much all chickens, 15-40#, but it's steady regardless of tides, etc.

I've also paid close attention to what others are bringing in, and people are bringing good hauls to the cleaning station.  The bigger fish seem to be coming from the Flat Island area, but the seas have been choppier than what I'm comfortable with to venture out towards that area to test myself.

Simply put, there's still halibut out there.  Also, from the spit all the way to where we fish, silvers were jumping all over the place.  I didn't stop to troll for them, but others sure are.  Nice fat chromers.
