How's the fishing in AK in October - and where's the best place to go?

I was in Kodiak in Oct. a few years back, and it was amazing (for silvers).  What's it like on the mainland?  How's the Kenai?  Are there spots to go for steelhead that are accessible (or perhaps fly-in, but it seems like no one does those after Sept. 30).

Any tips, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated.
