fishing in Alaska
Posted by thetrio on Aug 16 2005
Do it yourselfer.  You can rent a boat in Whittier and go out into the protected water of Passage Canal and some of the close in bays.  The silvers are just about jumping into your boat.  I use a diver (pink lady) 2 feet of line then a silver flasher - 2 more feet of line then two brightly colored balls (orange and green seem to work best) then two hooks baited with chunks of herring. I would not advise you to go out by yourself.  Maybe you can find some other avid fisherman on the plane who is looking for an adventure.  You can rent fishing gear in Whittier also.  Whitter is an adventure unto itself. A city where 90% of the permanent occupants live in one building.  How unusual?  There are B&B that you can stay at and the local Anchor Inn.  Some of the fishing charters have boats you can stay on.  Check online.
   Good luck on your trip.
