Russian River Brown Bear slaying....
Posted by av8r on Aug 13 2005
As a fourth generation Alaskan, a lifelong hunter and fisherman, and gun enthusiast, this latest act of pure idiocy sickens me.

It is one thing to act in self defense, to protect property, or to hunt. It is another thing entirely to look and act like a complete fool. This is exactly what this bonehead did. Like most federal regulations, idiots and acts of idiocy are frequently the reason stiff rules are created in the first place. Further, this jughead may just have helped fuel the fire by the nutty anti-everything crowd that is probably salivating over this incident and will likely add this to their agenda regarding those "psycho nutjobs toting guns" in America.

What was he doing hauling around an SKS on the Russian River??? I have hunted the Russian Lakes area for years and never saw the need for such a weapon. This moron was showing off. He was probably wasted. He exhibited ZERO common sense and was a FAR greater danger to humans than to the bears ironically. He should be required to have the "loser" sign tattooed on his forehead. (sorry, my kids thought!)

This idiot has hurt the conscienous hunter and rifleman. He has hurt anyone who enjoys recreation shooting, and he may just have hurt anyone who may have enjoyed fishing on the Russian River at all hours. He may have just forced us all to "dummy down!"

You may think it is "just a bear" but think a little more....The climate in this country today, even the climate in Alaska is leaning in a very distressing direction. Too many incidents like this, and your way of life might just change forever.

Ethical sportsman of all types should rally and encourage serious punishment for this type of wildlife abuse and keep our unique and very special way of life alive and healthy.

sorry to ramble....
