YUKON River
Posted by retch on Aug 12 2005
The King Salmon have passed already and you will not catch any chums.  I suspect reading your message that you have little or no knowledge of the Yukon River or what to expect.  At the end of the Steese, you will find Circle, your intended launch site.  You didn't mention if you are in a power boat, or if headed up or down the river.  Do some real study and KNOW what to expect when you arrive.  This is wild country and a long way to the next pullout spot at the bridge if that is what you intend.  The Yukon is silt laden, full of spots to end up in trouble if not truly prepared and actually there are few places someone will luck into where you can catch fish if you don't plan ahead and study your trip.  A wonderful place, but you sound very unprepared for Alaska.  Hope you have a sourdough with you!  Good luck
