First-time Alaska fishing - gear recommendations
Posted by oregonhunter on Aug 11 2005
I'll be coming to Alaska for most of September and will be primarily hunting.  Also, I will be fishing while there.  The trip will include the lower Yukon and sloughs for two weeks and then a remote lake for 1 week.  Weight will be an issue on both legs of the trip.

I plan to bring a G Loomis 8-12lb spinning rod with a Shimano spinning reel and 12 or 14lb Fireline with steel leaders for pike.

As I understand it, the Yukon should hold plenty of pike, along with chum salmon and sheefish.  What lures do you recommend using for lures there?

Then, at the mountain lake, presumably fishing for trout and grayling what do you recommend there?

Thanks for you help.

Randy
