Tackle rigging
Posted by AkHunter45 on May 16 2005
For red salmon on the Kenai, use 12-20 lb mono with a 1/2 to 1 oz banana sinker, then attach your fly roughly 18-24 inches below your sinker. Color really doesn't matter as you are basically trying to guide the hook into the reds mouth. Some people use colored yarn but i don't, the coho fly works well for me. I also prefer to use the 20lb good quality mono as they can really run when they get in the cuurent and can be hard to stop if they are snagged. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip to Alaska!!
