The breathables are better than some think, like anything the cheaper the cost usually (not always)the cheaper the quality. There are some descent brands that do not cost $400. To stay warm in them layer up, just like wearing Gortex in the winter, you can wear a layer of polypropalene or capaline as a lighter wear then if it's to cold put a layer of 200 or 300 mil fleece over them. All of this clothing is breathable and will wick moisture away from your skin and keep nice and warm. Also a benifit to this kind of clothing is if you happen to get wet all of this clothing will dry very fast with a littl heat from a fire.

As for boots I use the Simms Aqua Stealth which has a unique rubber sole that has little suction looking cups that have worked extemely well in several different streams and river thru out Alaska.
