More on MacDonald Creek
Posted by AkKings on Apr 08 2005
Art,

I am only aware of 1 cabin on MacDonald lake and its at the lower end and is not on an island, its on the shore of the lake which is part of Cleveland peninsula (mainland), it has been 10 years since I've been there and the forest service may have added a cabin I'm not aware of.
As for bears, I saw blackie's and heard of brownie's but never saw 1 in 12 to 15 trips to the area, did see 1 wolf and other wildlife but not any brown bears.
Definitely take a walk down the trail to the lodge, less then a mile and an easy hike, buy a couple of the guides a beer and they should give you alot of help (the guys that were there 10 years ago did).
I would definitely recommend a kicker motor if you plan on hitting Wolverine, I was in my 20's and in good shape when I fished that area and wouldn't have thought about hiking it. If you do get to Wolverine creek its about a half to 3/4 mile hike to a small waterfall, I did real well just below the falls.
Good luck up there.
Scott D.
