PWS Shrimp are great eating!

First make sure you follow all the regulations. F&G will check you bouys, net size, pots and permit.
Bait: I use herring. I tried cat food as everyone proclaimed it was better but could not see a difference. Slit the bait lenghtwise to release more scent, Fresh bait is better than old bait, rebait every time. Matter of fact in one string of three traps, 2 w/herrng and 1 w/cat food, the herring did better.
Location: 60-400 feet, whatever your back can handle. I have done best in about 100-130 but location may have had more of an effect. In a simular depth in Jacks Bay I had so many starfish that I could hardly get them out of the trap.
Everyone seems to agree that a sloping bottom as opposed to a flat bottom. That might have something to do with the star fish.
Pulling: Don't use a bouy to pull the pots and once you start pulling don't stop to rest. Little buggers are fast. Try to pull in the early morning as they are night creatures and you will get more.
Hints: I saw one guy with a black, (weed matting) on the top and bottom of his traps. Supposedly they like the dark. I think I would check with F&G first though. How I read the regs and how they do don't always match.
Mark the location with a GPS.
Make sure that you have enough line out so that if the tide comes in it doesn't lift your pots and take them for a ride.
Shoot anyone that you see stealing shrimp. JUST KIDDING! I have had my pots cleaned and others have pulled theres to find a six-pack of beer in them. I am changing locations next year to a different spot.
Cool the shrimp in ice immediately. Send me the first dozen and I will cook them and test them for you to make sure there good!
