rods and clearwater
Posted by TradBow on Oct 11 2004
As far as rods goes....I like rods that cast well for me, I dont care what they cost as long as I can afford them.  Most of my rods were taken in trade by being a commercial fly tier.  I am still waiting on yours moose!  Could have used it today shew. After breaking a cortland and the dealer never shipping it back hence, no replacement rod, I wont go with corltands again, EVER!  Atleast not while he is in town.  I have a sage, a couple of loomis's, and some off brands.  Realize there are really only a few shops that actually build these blanks themselves, I believe there is less then 5 around the country.  I've casted some very nice casting rods that run between 50 and 150 bucks.  There is a 3-4wt in anchorage that runs ya 49.99 and is worth 3 times that much in how it casts.  Very sweet and a greaty grayling rod.  I wont however buy one without a unconditional warrenty anymore and I am willing  to shell out a few bucks for it.

Also went to delta clearwater today and hammered them on a pink polly wog also.  This is my first ever at raising fish.  The 10 yr old I took with landed 22 fish in a few hours of fishing.  He never fish's unless I take him.  I landed over a dozen to the wog, raised twice that many, man what a hoot!  But alas, a fuschia bunny fly reigned king.  Even on spinning rods they still hammered fish.  We used a huge snap swivel to help add enough weight so they could cast them (the 10 yr old and another adult were using them),  ZERO on pixies, vibrax's!  2 fish in 2 casts on the fuschia bunny fly.  yall need to give it a go if you head back down!!!

I also had to help a couple of kids go and geat "GEAR" from across the river.  When we beached the boat I realized it wasnt gear, but a BUTT load of fish.  33 to be exact.  Fish and game will be hearing from me in the AM, our cell phones didnt work when it happened, we did get a ton of witness's as I dropped them off right in front of everyone just for that reason.  Keep your eyes peeled, there are to many poachers around!
