On the road in the Emerald Isle...
Posted by AlaskanAuthor on Aug 31 2004
PT,

You're in luck. You've picked the right place and at the right time.
Silvers are now flooding into the waterways that bisect the Kodiak road system. You will find that the pickings will be excellent and that your opportunities will be numerous.

Fishing the road system is easy. There are plenty of opportunities. Many spots will be be as simple as park your car and fish. And the best news is that on September 15th almost all tributaries open up and will allow you to fish upstream of highway crossings.

Get ready for your reward of going a little farther than the mainland. There are no tour busses, no large RV's, and relatively uncrowded conditions. Kodiak is like time-warping back in time to mainland AK during the 80's. Trust me, island fishing is that good!

Spin fishermen do well on Vibrax, Pixee, and even hook and egg. The best custom spinner is manufacutured by Tony Davis from Afognak, and you'll find a great selection of his line by stopping into Mac's Sporting Goods in town. Fly guys nail them with leeches and streamers. Kodiak silvers are big and agressive, and from what the locals tell me, their migratory radar goes nuts and they are all over the place.

I've been researching and fishing the roadways for 3 years. My upcoming trip almost coinsides with yours, as I arrive September 18th for 6 full days just to nail these guys. Harvest is 2 fish per day, 3 other salmon in pinks or chums, reds are gone.

Don't overlook the dollies, they are all over and you get to keep 10 and they are easy pickings.

The island is a delight. Read what I have to say about it by punching the FISHING button on this site. Any other specific information (and believe me, I have plenty that ranges all the way from discounts to outfitters) that might assist you can be found by contacting me directly at: https:/www.alaskanauthor.com/

Best Wishes!
