I was told that chum salmon are garbage fish, but I kept one anyway and smoked it. I was expecting mushy or a rotten taste but it was awesome fish. Sure it was more like trout than salmon, but good tasting none the less. You guys that live there can catch whatever you want and I think that is why these fish get a bad rap. It may not taste like salmon per say, but it still tastes good. The chums I caught also fought as hard as any (even the silvers and reds I caught) and they were the prettiest fish by far.
