Bruce Anchor
Posted by Mort on Feb 01 2006
I agree with the CG Aux folks.  I've been securing my Bruce anchor this way for 7 seasons now and have no worries about exceeding the strength of the trip-line eye (didn't even know it had a name).  I've anchored a 26' Searunner in some hellacious tides and never broke loose.  I have had to retye the gagnon after it wears through or the knot came loose.  But I like being able to break it loose.

That said, I did get one anchor stuck so bad that 5 attempts at full power (smaller boat/motor) wouldn't pull it loose.  That one got a little scary.  Eventually cut it loose and chalked it up to a lesson.

My bet is the chances of breaking the trip-line eye are far less than hanging an anchor.  And a hung anchor that won't bust loose winds up forever on the ocean floor anyway.
