Whittier Expenses
Posted by PatrickH on Jul 11 2005
I just got back from my first trip to Whittier this year. I'm still suffering from sticker shock. The prices have gone up from last year.
$20 Tunnel Fee (plus the additional hour wait when they bump you so an extra tour train can come through)
$15 Launch Ramp Fee
$20 Overnight Parking (get there 5pm, leave next day at 2pm and they charge for two days instead of 24 hours.)
$55 total fees before I even started my boat. To top it off someone emptied my shrimp pots for me before I came back in.
I like Prince William Sound, but Seward is faster and substantially cheaper-even with my gas-guzzling truck. If you are thinking about buying a boat so you can go to PWS, be aware of the costs before you commit. I suppose I will have to bite the bullet a couple of times a year. But Seward has just become my main destination.
I'll stop moaning now. I just had to get it off my chest.
