Open or covered

One of the big things to decide on is if you want an open boat or a coverd one, or at least a windshield. I have a fully open, 20' alumaweld with a senter console. It is great for fishing, since you can walk around the boat with a fish on. I have seen others that are trying to hand their pole to someone else over the canvas top as the fish is taking off. The downside to an open skiff is that there are not many days on the Kenai when it is truly comfortable for the family due to wind, rain, etc.

On the motor side of things, get a 40 or 50 hp that is detuned to 35hp and you will be set forever. I would bet that sooner or later they are going to ban 2 strokes in the Kenai.
