A couple of rivers for you
Posted by Michael Strahan on Feb 24 2005

Welcome to Alaska!  You're gonna love it here.

Spend some time studying the Kasilof and Kenai Rivers, on the Kenai Peninsula.  The Kenai is an incredibly rich fishery, with multiple salmon runs that will keep you occupied all summer.  It also has a fantastic rainbow trout and Dolly Varden fishery that's particularly good in the upper river (above Skilak Lake).  The upper river is nearly all drift only, and if you opt for the float down to Skilak, you'll need a long-shaft outboard for the (fifteen mile?) run to the upper Skilak boat launch.

Yes, both rivers are crowded, but the fishing is very good and summer days are long here.  You're in for some great times.

Best of luck!
