Knots have been in use for thousands of years. They have 3 practical purposes – to attach a rope to another rope, to attach a rope to an object or to allow a rope to perform a function (such as a snare or lariat). All knots have multiple uses, though some – like the hangman’s noose – are suited for a very specific purpose.
There are several types of knots including bends, hitches, loop knots, lashings, binding knots, stopper knots and splices. The language of knots is complicated since, for example, a fishermen’s bend is actually a hitch and a fishermen’s knot is a bend. For this reason, we have not classified knots by type. In order, to simplify presentation in this guide, knots have been organized according to key functions.
Great little pocket guide for youth organizations: (Royal rangers, Boy scouts, Girl scouts) Put one in your glove compartment, boat, 4 wheeler, snowmachine. Shows step by step how to make a variety of knots. Waterproof.
