Preface: The Alaska Roadside Angler's Guide is the culmination of decades of experience fishing the numerous rivers, streams, lakes and bays accessible by the state's roads and highways. In addition to the personal observations of the creators, state and federal agencies - as well as sport fishing guides have contributed vital pieces of information in seeing the book become what it is today. The most comprehensive publication covering the best angling "hot spots" on the road system. Written mostly with the uninitiated in mind, The Alaska Roadside Angler's Guide is the perfect tool for those who are new to the state or just visiting. Although the book is detailed in its description of various waters and species, there is an element of discovery left in place as not to divulge too many "true secrets". They remain guarded to honor those who, like the creators, have spent thousands of hours of trial and error to actualize. Instead, the Alaska Roadside Angler's Guide focuses on the more commonly known facts regarding game fish and the waters they inhabit and presents the true and tried locations and techniques for maximizing yield of time and effort for the reader. Much information compiled in these pages originated from questions raised by anglers unfamiliar with fishing in Alaska and/or on the road system. The eternal aspects of What, Where, When, Why and How are dealt with in logical order and the book hopefully answers the majority - if not all - of these inquires. The Alaska Roadside Angler's Guide also included ad information placed by local businesses, a first for a book of its kind. All of the advertising is area, location, and species directed and anglers are advised to use the various guides, lodges, sporting good shops and others presented as much as possible. They are companies that have solid reputations in their area of expertise and are in this book by invitation. Updated and expanded editions of this book will follow every few years. Future editions will include a number of new locations and areas as well as more information on those already featured. Welcome to the First Edition of The Alaska Roadside Angler's Guide!
