Drawings 11. 135 B&W photos (From the back cover): When Stoneydale Press decided to compile a comprehensive guidebook on field care for hunters and fishermen, we wanted to combine the best information and directions available BOTH for the care of trophies and proper techniques for caring for big game meat, small game, fish, game birds and waterfowl - and to do it in one volume. We also wanted to tough on the need of performing those field care techniques safely because it is not always possible to accomplish field care under ideal conditions. This Field Care Handbook accomplished those purposes. To achieve what we wanted, we acquired the rights to one of the best field handbooks previously available that specifically covered the care of trophies, big game or fish - namely. Duncan Gilchrist's "Big Game Hunter's and Fisherman's Complete Guide to the Field Care of Trophies" - a guide that came out of his 14 years in Alaska where he had to develop techniques that worked with both a minimum of tools and limited access to materials. Then we asked Duncan to revise and update his booklet, which he did, both in regard to the text and photographs. So, within these pages you'll get a completely updated and improved version of his techniques on the field care of trophies. Finally, to take the concept a step farther, we asked outdoor writer Bill Sager to compile the very best information, photographs and illustrations available on common sense, workable field care techniques for handling big game animals, including elk, deer, antelope, caribou, hogs, etc., and small game like rabbits and squirrels, plus upland game birds and waterfowl. Then we asked him to further research and produce a chapter on field care cautions - a chapter dealing with safety, clean-up procedures, hygiene, the avoidance of disease, injuries, and other problems you'll need to be aware of to protect yourself when performing the field care chores. This handbook is a result of that effort. Dale A.
