Originally just a log of the Alaska Highway, the Milepost has turned into a highly useful publication for anyone planning to travel the North no matter what transportation is used. We usually keep it with us when we travel roads we haven’t been on in a few years, mainly because traveler’s services aren’t as available at they are in other parts of North America. Furthermore, there’s a lot of information about the surrounding country.

The Milepost covers these highways (most major northern roads have numbers, but few here use the numbers, preferring instead to use the names): Alaska Highway, Atlin Road, Campbell Highway, Canol Road, Cassia Highway, Copper River Highway, Dalton Highway, Dempster Highway, Edgerton Highway/McCarthy Road, Elliott Highway, Glenn Highway/Tok Cutoff, Haines Highway, Hudson’s Hope Highway, Klondike Highway, Klondike Loop, Laird Highway, Mackenzie Route, Parks Highway, Richardson Highway, Seward Highway, Sliver Trail Highway, Steese Highway, Sterling Highway, Tagish Road, Taylor Highway, Top of the World Highway, Yellowhead Highway.

More information about Delta Junction, Alaska -- the historic end of the Alaska highway.

There is also good coverage for the Alaska Railroad and the White Pass and Yukon Route; as well as the Alaska Marine Highway and British Columbia ferry system.

The Milepost has information about major attractions like Anchorage, Denali National Park, Fairbanks, Glacier Bay NP, the Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak Island, Prince William Sound and Southeast Alaska. The travel planning section covers accommodations, air travel, arctic circle, aurora borealis, bears, bicycling, boating, bus lines, calendar of events, camping, crossing the border, cruise ship travel, daylight hours, ferry travel, fishing, GPS, hiking, holidays, internet, national parts, photography, railroads, renting an RV, shipping, when to go/weather, and wildlife.
