The author, Nancy Lange Simmerman, came to
Alaska in 1059. As a freelance photographer operating out of Girdwood
(near Anchorage), Simmerman has illustrate and written articles on
Alaska and other outdoor subjects in numerous national magazines, and
her photographs have appeared in many books. She is co-author of 55
Ways to the Wilderness (The Mountaineers, Seattle) and an illustrator
of Alaska II and Southeast Alaska, two large-format pictorial books.
She is a member of the American Society of Magazine Photographers.
