Hunting Alaska News & Tips

March, 2006

Dear Hunter:

There are some particularly interesting threads this month on the Alaska Hunting Forum.  Alaska has quite a bit of open land where it is possible to hunt without asking permission, but it is often necessary to find out where the boundaries of private land are located.  One of these interesting threads is titled user fees/trespass issues, and I think you'll find quite a bit of helpful info on this subject.  There are a number of other interesting threads as well.

The hotly debated SB85 that would open the Dalton Highway corridor to the potential of off road vehicle (ORV) use is going to be discussed before the House Transportation Committee on March 5th.  The Alaska Outdoor Council is recommending passage of the legislation and has asked members to contact legislators.  This legislation makes sense to me.  A total blanket closure ignores recreational possibilities that can be done at low environmental risk.  Good planning will keep those areas closed where there are high environmental and social risks.

Good hunting to you.....David
