In the serene Goodpaster River drainage and surrounding mountains you'll find the 40-mile caribou herd. The herd's population has nearly doubled in the past five years providing tremendous hunting opportunity. This hunt is a registration permit hunt in which Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game closes the season once a harvest goal is met. The majority of caribou taken out of this harvest area in 2001 through 2003 were taken by clients of Gardner Hunting. The season is Aug. 10th through Sept. 30th. As part of this unique hunt you will travel by Super Cub and river boat or 4-wheeler. The final hunt of the season by river boat is a float trip that takes approximately two days. This trip is usually in conjunction with a moose hunt. The scenery and fishing are fantastic. There are also locations that provide good bow hunting opportunities for caribou due to the blend of forest, tundra, and river ecosystems. |
