Black Bear Hunting

Randy H. with 6'8" Sept SowThe rolling tundra hills sides of our area offers some unprecedented black bear hunting from late may thru late September, bears over seven foot are seen each year and an average size harvested would be between 6 and 6.5 foot. Its not uncommon on our early spring hunts to see up to 40 bears a week, our fall hunts we see less bears but the ones we see are better quality as they are fat from months of blueberry eating with black glossy hides! Its not uncommon to see black bears feeding on the same ridges and slopes as a grizzly bear.

Glassing from vantage points is the most effective way to local potential bears. Clients need to be prepared for hours of glassing and be in shape to carry a small daypack for several miles. The better physical condition a hunter is in the more opportunities they will have and the more enjoyable their hunt will be!
