Problem Solved
Posted by Dan Collins on Jul 23 2005
As promised, they gave me another Sportsman. It now has a whopping 4 miles on it after driving around the neighborhood. Everything works fine. I've shut it off and restarted it several times - when someone was there..

The reason for the electrical problem was the electronic module. It's designed to cut off to protect the dash cluster if it detects a power surge from the battery. Apparently Polaris has been having some difficulties with this part. Something to do with the sensor I think. It's the replacement part for their May '05 expanded recall.

If a module is bad it's likely to go out sooner rather than later. I'm going to stay close to home and let it prove itself. Just the same, I think I'll carry a spare for longer trips.

The dealer was responsive, apologized for the inconvenience, and went out of his way by bringing another ATV to my home. Hatcher's Pass Polaris has is known for treating their customers right, which is why I bought from them. After this experience, I'd say they deserve this reputation.
