ATV Ownership
Posted by LongShadow on Apr 19 2005
If you own or have owned an ATV.  List a few thinks that you really like or dislike about it.  Here is a few things that I can recall about ATVs I own.

"1992 King Quad 300
+ Lightweight
+ Sips gas
+ Range of gears w/ diffeeretial lock
+ Parts availability and price compared to other MFG
- somewhat difficult to work on if you need to access engine
- drum brakes
- clearance

Mech Problems:
  Wheel bearings

1993 Kawasaki Bayou 300
+ Nimble
+ Lightweight
+ Easy to work on and maintain
+ Front disc brakes
- Rear drum brake
- Ground clearance
- Parts very spendy
- Local dealership stocks very few parts

Mech Problems:
Overhauled engine and clutches once and is due for another engine O/H.
Rear Drum Brake is shot and not worth fixing again.
Replaced front CV joints and boots
Front gearcase seals are worn and require replacement
(Note:  this was my first and most abused quad)

2000 Polaris Sportsman 500
+ Very comfortable ride
+ Nice power
+ Disc brakes all around
+ Ground clearance
+ Nice plow setup
- Very hard to maintain.  Accessing grease zerks and spark plug difficult.
- Must remove rack to check/add coolant
- Very heavy

Mech Problems:
Replaced cooling fan twice
Replaced cooling pump seals
