Snow Tractor
Posted by PatrickH on Apr 09 2005
You have several good choices. Skidoo Skandic Super Wide, Arctic Cat Bearcat, Yamaha Viking, Polaris Indy Wide Track LX. All have 20" or wider tracks. All should also have a two-range gearbox. In low gear you can usually just idle your way along. The wide tracks give much better flotation and traction. I do not know if any are available with a 4-stroke engine yet, but that would be one quiet snow tractor. The down side to these machines is that they are slower, heavier, less manueverable, more expensive, and suck gas. They will move incredible loads and are harder to get stuck though. I have a Skandic and like the air-cooled engine. A friend has the Bearcat and loves it. If at all possible try one out before you buy. They are not for the average snowmachine rider.
