SwitchBack
Posted by Brian Richardson on Feb 16 2005
This Sled from Polaris is now called the Switchback - it comes w/ a 144"/1 2.5" track, a wider (less edgy) stance than Deep Snow mountain riding specific machines.  Also comes w/ PERC reverse and great overall suspension for just about all conditions most would throw its way.  I like them because they work well, have great power, a forgiving ride, and can do both work & play.

I always get a kick out of the guys w/ the so called work sleds...  Heavy as a pig low performance belt sanders w/ skis!!!

Guess what? If it won't float & get traction at the same time - it won't go!!!  They are no fun, suspensions are not nearly as good on the roads less traveled (hunchbacks w/ hemroids seen riding)...  work sleds are futhermore terrible on uneven ground, reallly deep powder, tough to deal w/ when stuck, overall poor on uphill traction, and awful in an uphill pull scenario of lets say a skier/boarder or two.

If it were me - it's tough to beat having a deep snow sled like an 800 verticle escape and then have an aggressive Edge X or Pro-X... but that's alllottt of $$$$.

Want one that will do just about anything in between... the Crossover sleds like the Switchback are great.

As w/ anything it is also up to the rider, skill level, familiarity w/ conditions/area trends, and knowing what the sled can do - including what your body can take.
