338 federal
Posted by elmerkeithclone on May 09 2006
Just read an article on this round last night. Its nothing more than a 308 Winny necked up to 338. It will basicly be 100 ft/sec behind the 338-06 with any given bullet. Federal is laying their claims to the round and Sako will be the first to chamber it.

Winchester didn't go with the 338 cal in their short magnums because the big bullets used up to much powder space. I see the same issue with this round. I think sticking with the light for caliber bullets would be the best way to maximize this round. A 180 Barnes running 2900fp/sc should be good deer/black bear fodder but will they do anything that a 308 with a 180 grain bullet won't do?

Thoughts?
