450 Fuller-Good insight
Posted by ridge on May 05 2006
Thanks for the insightful comment on the 450 Fuller/Alaskan.

A guy named John Kronfeld wrote some good articles back in the late 80s on all the 348 Wildcats. The Fuller version does basically the same job as the .450 Alaskan. There was not much 45-90 brass and Johnson
had his first good luck with an old 86 in 45-70. It out-performed
the 30-06 rifle he was using. At any rate, the advantage of all the 450/50 combinations is stopping power in reliable rifles.Since I have more 86s and 71s -I will be doing it the "old school" way.
Phil Shoemaker-a guide near Wasila-uses a .416. Ed Stevenson-Sheep River-uses
411 and 375 Wildcats on the 06 case in 1895 Win clones-From my own experience-
I like to alternate between an old pre-64 M-70 in 375 Weatherby and
a 71-450 AK./Fuller. As long as I don't drop them in salt water-its fine-thats what cleaning and oiling is about.
Like reloading with really premium bullets-it has its own reward.
