Posted by sourdough on May 04 2006 the 180's are great hunting bullets for sure, but Murphy's advice is right on regarding penetration with heavier bullets. You said it yourself, your talking close range therefore speed is really not important. If you are concerned about critters and are set on using a .30-06 (my personal favorite caliber), use the heaviest practical bullet available. I suggest looking at some Kodiak bonded bullets, perhaps swift A-frames. You need something that's gonna open up, push on through, and stick together. Just an old timers 2 pennies....
