m70 action for 375 Dakota
Posted by Rick on May 03 2006
I may have an answer for your dilema....
Been there ...done that.  This is the biggest hassle with the Dakota - 404 based cartridges.

I understand that the m70's chambered in 300 Ultra Mag have a mag box that takes 3 rds down...and that is also a 404 based cartridge.

I built a 300Dak on a m70  30/06 rifle...2 round box and after custom mag box...much work, no luck

Bought a Dakota arms m97 330Dak barreled action and was shocked and highly pissed when I found that it would hold 3 in the box, but the bolt will only close over 2.  still haven't fixed the problem. but I will. I like the rifle alot...and the cartridge. I think this is a safety issue. the temptation being to put the third round in the chamber.

Were I to build another for the Dakota cartridges, the M70 300 Ultra would be my start.
