6.5's big and small..
Posted by Murphy on May 02 2006
Virus,

I think you're looking at the wrong numbers when comparing the 260 with the 6.8 SPC.  The 6.5-08 or 260 as it is now would be a great long shot springbok/impala caliber.  I would opt for the 140 grain bullets, and those would do better in shorter barrel.  It will always be better in the long run than the extremely short 115 gr .277" bullet of the 6.8 SPC.  That caliber is more in the class of the 7.62x39 round than the 260/7mm-08 caliber.  In a 22" barrel the 115 grain is only about 2450 fps, from what I've seen, not the 140 at 2700 fps of the 260 Rem.  The 260 is basically a souped up 6.5x55 Swede, a caliber with great credentials in the hunting fields.  I don't mean to say a 6.8 won't work on springbok or impala but not the best and not at 300 yards.  I don't like the 243 either but it would be a better killer than the 6.8 SPC.  Good shootin'.
