Welcome Back Murphy - 375 Dakota Question
Posted by Kabluewy on Apr 30 2006
I have been out of town too. Utah rather than wilderness. You got my curious going about this Dakota series, so before leaving I ordered a box of 375 Dakota brass, and it was waiting for me at the P.O.

I have tried it in the magazine of my Winchester 70 and the Ruger 77 MK II. Both have magnum bolt faces. In each case I can't get three rounds in the box. The Winchester is tighter than the Ruger. I can see that there will be some problems.

With either of the actions two rounds in the box appears to be OK, and will probably feed ok, if the bolt face/extractor is opened. However, two rounds in the box is not acceptable of course.

The overall diameter of the brass is just too big to fit three of them in the magazine without some modifications. It appers the tighest place is at the shoulder. I tried working standard magnum ammo through the actions just to assure my memory of how well these actions feed with the belted ammo intended for them.

Based on my initial study, I don't think I want to try this, unless I can find an action which will hold 3+1. I realize a Dakota action will work, but I don't want to spend that kind of money.

Perhaps you are interested in the brass? I'm sure it can be necked up to the 404 Dakota. You already know how I feel about messing with magazines and feed rails. Do you have any insight on this?

Thanks
