[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] 30-30 or? Posted by mauserboy on Apr 29 2006 I think a person has a right to use whatever he sees as fit for the purpose. That being said, when there are so many cartridges out there that has better potential for doing the correct job on a large animal as a moose or Brown Bear, why would a person limit their self to the efficient but certainly not overwhelming power and ballistics of a 30-30? Sure, if conditions were right, the 30-30 could do the job, but if something happens to make the situation less then ideal, as so often happens, then the point of having the right cartridge for the job would be made. Having a reserve of power or bullet weight to ensure better penetration at an odd angle or greater distance from the target then a lesser cartridge would be successful at would certainly seem to me to be an advantage to making a killing shot or in the case of a wounded Griz, for back-up shots that would be more effective. Certainly no one could argue that a 30-06 would be head and shoulders above the 30-30 at any distance. Previous: 30-30 usefulness KirovPDR Apr 28 2006 Next: is the question one of caliber or action?
