Fluting is an interesting idea. But realize that it is not cheap to have it done and then the barrel would most likely require refinishing unless you are happy with painting or cold bluing it yourself.
Another option would be to replace the wood stock with a syn one which could save you a pound or two. Either choice is gonna cost you some bucks.
