300 win
Posted by turner1978 on Mar 26 2006
I just bought a remington XCR in 300 win mag. I loaded some 200 gr accubonds, TSX, and partitions. The most accurate one was the accubonds. 2nd place goes to the partitions. I used 70.5 gr of H4831 with federal 215 primers and winchester brass. Accubonds measured 5/8" at 100 yrds (5 shots). Partitions were 7/8" and TSX's were      1-7/8". The TSX's were loaded with RL22 so that may have been the problem.
I am the same way. It is so hard to decide which one to use. The partition type bullets really penitrate but the accubonds are better for flat shooting. Nosler claims to get partition type performance with the accubonds (not the balistic tips!) so I am thinking that the best one is the most accurate one. I am going to try some 200 gr A-frames with the same powder. I think that the 300 win mag is probably one of the best all around greats in north america. It's not my choice for the really big dangerous game but it will work if need be, so I am told (never hunted grizz/brownies/polar bear before so this is all speculation on my point). I love my 300 win mag and I will never sell it. This is by far the most accurate gun I have ever owned and I am a winchester fan so that is saying a lot for me! You always here about how belted magnums aren't accurate. BS! I wonder how many guys up there in AK are using these 300 winnies for hunting big game and what is the most commonly used bullets? I have always used partitions untill a few years ago I started using TSX's but some rifles don't like 'em and they don't seem to work as good on small animals and long shots.
